Upper Mustang, also known as the Last Forbidden Kingdom, lies in the rain shadow of the Himalayas, resulting in a barren, desert-like landscape. The region's isolation has preserved its Tibetan Buddhist culture, evident in its monasteries, chortens, and prayer flags. Lo Manthang, the capital, is a medieval city with narrow streets, ancient palaces, and monasteries, providing a glimpse into the life of a bygone era.
